Children must be at least 13 years old, and Blue Waters does not permit the use of personal kayaks. Saturday Sorties
In recognition of the far-flung nature of our membership as well as the beauty that the entire Bay Area has to offer, the Outings Committee has launched Saturday Sorties. On the second Saturday each month, we’ll enjoy a day outing to locations primarily outside of Marin. Our goal is to bring the warmth and camaraderie we experience with the California Alpine Club to all our members, wherever they live, and create more opportunities for all to enjoy Nature’s bounty throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
AUGUST SATURDAY SORTIE

Samuel P. Taylor State Park
August 11, 2018 - 9:30 a.m.
A WALK IN THE PARK...

Jeff Grimshaw will lead the classic Barnabe Peak Loop hike at Samuel P. Taylor. It is about eight miles with a cumulative 1400-foot elevation gain. This is a moderately paced hike with plenty of rest stops to enjoy the vistas. If you want to hike fast, this is not the hike for you.

This hike features a climb to magnificent views of the San Geronimo Valley with an attractive mixture of redwoods, oak groves, and open grassland along the way. We will enjoy our lunch at Barnabe Peak / Dickson Lookout with spectacular vistas and a commanding view of grassy coastal hills and redwood-clad ridges, with Tomales Bay in the distance and hawks circling below.

Bring at least two liters of water. You may find hiking poles helpful due to the occasional loose soils.
And finally....
Report from the Trail
KIDD LAKE
July 13 - 15, 2018
The California Alpine Club went to the dogs for one happy weekend at Kidd Lake near Soda Springs. Seven pooches of all sizes and shapes gathered with 19 dog owners and dog lovers for two days of hiking, swimming and CAC camaraderie. The dogs all agreed that they were in Hound Heaven and we should include them in more California Alpine Club adventures.
Members and their furry friends gather for dinner.
The water temperature was just perfect for humans and canines alike.
A variety of hikes were available, including this one beneath Devil's Peak.
After a morning hike, time to relax and go for a swim in yet another nearby lake.
